Description and organisation of the project input data
Description of data themes and format:
The basic unit of organising our data is themes, using
the following naming convention:
CCGTTO where
-
CC is country code: CA for Canada, FI for Finland, NO for Norway,
SW for Sweden, GR for Denmark/Greenland, IC for Iceland, RU for Russia
and US for USA.
-
G is the Group: O for Potential Sources of Oil spills, B for
Biological Resources at Risk, H for Human Subsistence Communities and
P for Protected Areas. (if required, M for maps is used)
-
TT is the Theme: PA for Production Area, EA for Exploration Area TR
for Transport Routes, ST for Storage Terminals and Refineries, AO for
Areas of Occurrence, MP for Migration Pathways, CA for Community Areas
and RA for Protected Areas.
-
O is the Type of object: P for Points, L for Lines and A for Areas/Polygons
An example: NOrway sends a theme with data about
sources of Oil spill, Transport Lines. The theme is of type Point. If the
data is transferred as Windows ArcView shapefiles, it should be
represented by the following 3 files: NOOTRP.shx, NOOTRP.shp and
NOOTRP.dbf. If it is sent as coverage, the main "coverage-directory"
will be named as: NOOTRP
All themes are represented with geographic co-ordinates
(in decimal degrees, no datum, no projection).
In addition to the data files, also an additional text
file (*.txt) is included containing basic information such as:
organisation responsible for the data, owner of data, contact person, date
of data production, and any other comments or instructions that you would
find useful for our future work. This text file should have the same name
as the shapefile or coverage, but with the "txt" extension, (e.g.
NOOTLP.txt).

String (8) |
"Current", or "Future"
(choose one, "Future" means within 5 years) |
| CrudeOil |
String (3) |
Is Crude oil a product for actual area?
Type: "y" (yes) or "n" (no) |
| GasCond |
String (3) |
Is Gas or Condensate a product for actual
area: "y" (yes) or "n" (no) |
| Volume |

The PAID is composed of characters as described for
Themes, but with unique numbers in addition, CCGTTON where CC is country
code, G is the Group, TT is the Theme, O is the Type of object and N is an
unique number, starting from 1.
Exploration Areas (EAID):

The EAID is composed of characters as described for
Themes, but with unique numbers in addition, CCGTTON where CC is country
code, G is the Group, TT is the Theme, O is the Type of object and N is an
unique number, starting from 1 (please order sequentially)
Example of EAID:
Canada sends a theme with data about Sources of Oil Spill, Exploration
Areas. The theme is of type: Area. Then the first record will have an ID
like: CAOEAA1.
